We had a very rainy ride from Altoona, PA to Atlantic City, NJ today. I saw the orthopedist at Rothman Institute who gave us the results of the MRI of my left shoulder taken last week. It's not good news. I have a large rotator cuff tear which is not only torn, but retracted by several centimeters on each end. He recommends surgery as soon as possible. I am not looking forward to the surgery nor the long recuperation period.
We're back at Gardners Basin on the boat figuring out our options. First of all, we contacted Dr. Mark Lazarus from Philadelphia who repaired the rotator cuff injury on my right shoulder in 2008 and asked for a recommendation for a shoulder specialist near us in FL. He gave us the name of a surgeon in Tampa which could work out well. I also put a call in to our internist in Cape Coral for a recommendation and should hear back from him tomorrow.
Then Ralph contacted our boat insurance carrier and ascertained that we can be as far south as Jacksonville, FL by November 1, instead of Norfolk, VA. Then he contacted our friend, Jeff, for a recommendation for a marina in the Jacksonville area where we could leave the boat, rent a car, and drive home to Cape Coral.
Weather permitting we'll leave Atlantic City on Saturday, June 15 and head south, hoping to be in FL in about a month. And the beat goes on. We'd appreciate your prayers for us in the coming weeks. It's been interesting to say the least.
This is a test response. A friend is having difficulty posting.
